Works as it is supposed to. Can't really add more operational experience than what's already been offered, but I would like to advise new owners to please read the manual.



Gems worth repeating:

1. Don't hook up more than one drive at a time to the adapter.

2. Use the power cord. For PATA (IDE) drives, the Molex plug goes direct to the drive. For SATA drives, plug the Molex end into the Apricorn adapter.

3. Set the jumper on PATA drives to "Master"

3. Carefully attach drive to Apricorn adapter.. don't force things, be sure pins and spaces are lined up correctly.



Oh... I LOVE the extremely short power cord! Of course I usually use one of my longer cords in my tech case for the Apricorn, but this "shorty" 5-15 3-prong to C13 is unique and will no doubt come in handy.

I bought this to recover data from my iMac's hard drive after it developed an error that made it unable to boot. I plugged it in and my iBook was immediately able to see all of the files on the old hard drive. After I got my files out, I decided to see if DiskWarrior could repair the disk error on the old hard drive. Worked like a charm! Now I no longer get an error message from the old hard drive.



I highly recommend this product.

This unit has performed flawlessly on every drive I've tried it on including 2.5" SATA & IDE as well as 3.5" SATA & IDE hard drives. The included software is so simple to use I'm pretty sure a trained monkey could operate it!



Note however that the drive will still be spinning after you unmount it (or use the Safely Remove option from Windows), so to prevent disc damage I recommend unplugging the power source and letting the drive spin down before removing the Drivewire adapter from the drive.



The only thing which would make this product better would be the inclusion of a case to store it and the supplied cables in, but that would increase the price of course.



I didn't get mine within the window of one of the rebates but I still got good value for what I paid even at full price. Highly recommended for anyone who frequently is called upon to copy data from various hard drives.

"It just works."



For more than a decade I've been saving drives as I've moved between four or five different desktops and three different notebooks, migrating only what seemed essential.



Now that storage is cheap, I decided to move and consolidate 15 years of data, and this device was just the ticket - "installation" (such as it is) takes around 30 seconds - just plug in the drive and connect the USB - and this device successfully accessed every IDE/PATA/SATA drive.

Product was very easy to install and use. I bought it to recover date from an old hard drive that wouldn't work inside my PC. Very easy to find the files I needed and transfer them over to my new hard drive.
